People 'can't be expected to bring dog faeces home' with them from public park in Kildare

The absence of dog waste bags in public locations has been criticised.

Cllr Bill Clear told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting that it is foolhardy to expect people to bring a bag of dog faeces home to dump.

He said it is a big mistake not having bags available at public locations and Naas mayor Fintan Brett asked Kildare county Council to provide some litter bins at strategic locations in Kerdiffstown Park to facilitate dog waste bags.

But KCC has no plans to do this. 

KCC official Simon Wallace said in a report that a “leave no trace policy will be operated and promoted in the park and users will be required to bring their waste home and dispose of it appropriately themselves.”

KCC previously indicated that neither bins for the disposal of dog faeces nor waste bag dispensers are being provided by it.

Instead KCC is trying to promote the message that “dog owners should exercise responsible behaviour when bringing their dog for a walk.”

This means bringing a bag, any bag (including relatively inexpensive nappy bags) when walking a dog.
