Psychiatric report due for man accused of assault causing harm incident in Kildare

A man accused of committing an assault causing harm offence in Newbridge will be examined as part of a psychiatric report.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, was accused of committing the assault on November 7 last on Edward Street in Newbridge at midday.

Gardaí who were in Naas District Court on Thursday, January 4 last told Judge Desmond Zaidan that the alleged injured party sustained a concussion, along with soft-tissue damage, as a result of the alleged assault.

Defending solicitor Joe Coonan flagged to the judge that his client has serious mental health issues.

Upon hearing this, Judge Zaidan decided to order a psychiatric report for the man.

This report will be due on a date in June.

Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are also expected on this date.

The judge remanded the accused on continuing bail until the case resumes.
