Participants needed for The Butterfly Run in October in aid of Féileacáin - a charity which helps families after loss of a baby

The organisers of The Butterfly Run are reaching out to people in Kildare to support the event which is in aid Féileacáin - a charity which helps families after loss of a baby.

The family-friendly 5K walk/run welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Féileacáin is a charity that provides support to families after the loss of a baby. This year, Kildare is a new venue for the event, joining four other Butterfly Runs taking place across the country on the same weekend. There is also a virtual participation option available for those who cannot attend in person. The Kildare run takes place on Saturday, October 3 at 12pm at Punchestown Racecourse.

The Butterfly Run was created to bring together bereaved families, friends, and supporters to remember, honour, and celebrate babies gone too soon. It features the "Sea of Purple", where participants wear custom purple T-shirts with their baby’s or loved one’s name written on them.

“This heartfelt run is open to everyone — families, friends, and individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you choose to run, jog, or walk, this day is about coming together to remember, to support, and to celebrate the little lives that left big footprints,” said the organisers.

“The event is a gentle, welcoming space where love and remembrance meet movement and community. Expect a warm atmosphere, plenty of smiles, and a flutter of butterflies to guide you along the way. So, lace up your runners, wear a splash of colour, and join us for a day of connection, compassion, and hope. For returning participants, we would ask you please reuse any t-shirts received from previous events.”
