The project has a floor area of approximately 1,743 square metres

A €2.6 million extension has been granted for Scoil Mhuire Community School on the Prosperous Road in Clane, Co Kildare.

The development will see a new two-storey extension constructed at the school, providing additional specialist and general teaching accommodation.

The ground floor will include four special educational needs (SEN) classrooms, along with associated rooms, while the first floor will contain five general classrooms, two science rooms and ancillary accommodation.

The project will also involve the demolition of the existing boiler and plant room and the construction of a new relocated boiler room and switch room.

Minor alterations and an extension to the existing woodwork room are also planned to allow it to connect with the new building.

External works will include a new set-down area and 12 additional car parking spaces, including accessible parking spaces.

The plans also provide for new landscaping, footpaths, boundary treatments and other ancillary site works.

The €2.6 million project has a floor area of approximately 1,743 square metres and covers a site of 5.82 hectares.

The planning application was submitted on October 1, 2025, with plans granted by Kildare County Council on August 28, 2026.

The project is publicly funded and has been classified as an education-sector school extension.
