The driver was detected by Naas Roads Policing Unit over the bank holiday weekend

Naas Roads Policing Unit (NaasRPU) recently detected a learner driver in Kildare travelling well over twice the legal speed limit.

The 17-year-old novice driver was travelling at an incredible 146km/h through Millicent, Clane.

The driver was detected as part of An Garda Síochána Kildare's Bank Holiday road campaign.

A garda spokesperson said of the crime: “At that speed, there is little room for error. One mistake. One bend. One pedestrian. One family left with a lifetime of heartbreak.

“This isn't about getting somewhere faster. It's about whether everyone gets home at all.

“Slow down. No journey is worth a life.”
