Kildare Gardaí remember victims of 9/11 terrorist attack

An Garda Síochána in Kildare will today mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks with a special remembrance for those who lost their lives, including Irish-American firefighter Seán Tallon.
A 9/11 Memorial at Donadea Forest, Co. Kildare, commemorates Seán, who served with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
On the morning of the attacks, Seán and members of his Ladder crew were among the first firefighters to enter the North Tower. Tragically, none of the crew survived.
In marking the anniversary, An Garda Síochána Kildare also paid particular tribute to their policing colleagues in the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
NYPD officers, alongside firefighters from the FDNY, Port Authority Police Department, EMS and other emergency services, ran towards the unfolding danger to help others. Many of those who responded never returned home.
Gardaí said they stand in solidarity with their colleagues in the NYPD and with all those who continue to live with the memories and loss of that day.
Twenty-five years on, Seán Tallon, the emergency responders and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice remain in the thoughts of communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
“We remember.
“We honour.
“We will never forget,” An Garda Síochána Kildare said.
