KILDARE: Man assaulted at Punchestown racing festival - claim

Punchestown Racecourse

A man was assaulted at Punchestown Racecourse during the annual National Hunt fixture in April, it was claimed at Naas District Court.

Joseph Lawlor, 55, whose address was given as 1026 Nicholastown, Kilcullen, was prosecuted for alleged assault at the venue on April 30 at 6.45pm.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the defendant was out socialising with friends and he got into an argument.

The sergeant added that the defendant tried to punch a woman but hit her husband instead.

The court also heard that medical treatment was not required as a result of the incident.

Sgt Hanrahan said he was unaware if the victim had made a statement.

The defendant indicated he had €300 in court and  wants to have the case heard.

Judge Desmond Zaidan adjourned the matter to February 8 to establish whether a victim impact statement will be available.
