ROUND UP: Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District news briefs

Transport and road works were key issues at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, December 14.

Local Property Tax (LPT) Allocations:

Two LPT allocations were agreed upon at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, December 14.

For the first successful allocation, Fine Gael Councillor Kevin Duffy suggested €500 to Hopkins Society towards costs for carol service.

For the second successful allocation, Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender suggested that €2, 500 to Teach Tearmann towards outreach services.

Transport projects:

An update on Sustainable Transport and Active Travel (AT) Team projects in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District was given to local councillors.

The Naas-Newbridge Inter-Urban AT Corridor (ATC) and Newbridge Main Street and Station Road ATC are in the preliminary design stage.

The Monasterevin AT Scheme is in Part 8 and Detailed Design process.

Projects involving vulnerable road user improvements at crossings and junctions, cycle safety improvements at existing junctions and cycle parking in town centres, schools and sports clubs are ongoing.

Road updates:

KCC has given an update on the removal of car parks on the Cutlery Road in Newbridge.

The council said that a design needs to be finalised showing the proposal that will go out on public display.

KCC explained that once this is done, 'the Section 38 will come back to the members with the layout and seek approval to proceed to public.'

In addition, the council said that road resurfacing works at Dara Park in Newbridge will be looked at in the new year.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle also requested KCC to create an age-profile of the area, in order to better inform them of what works need to be done.
