One of the car fires in Clondalkin (Photos: Dublin Fire Brigade)
This was the scene as firefighters were called to two vehicles alight in the Clondalkin area off the N7 on Sunday night.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "Although radiated heat damaged nearby doors and windows, the fire was prevented from spreading any further."

Car fires present many hidden dangers for firefighters.
Water can cause small explosions due to chemical reactions.
Intense heat is generated due to the burning of magnesium in the engine blocks.
Magnesium reacts violently with water and can explode.
Gas contained in hinges in bonnets and boots can also explode possibly causing them to shoot off like missiles.
