Man who died in Athy stabbing described as a 'fine, decent, hardworking man'

David Boland RIP

Tributes have been paid to Nurney man David Boland, who died after being stabbed in Athy in the early hours of yesterday morning, Thursday November 1.

"David was a fine decent, hardworking man and he ran a successful engineering business in Castledermot. He was a motorcycling enthusiast who loved rallies and motorbikes. He was a father, he had his whole life ahead of him," said Cllr Martin Miley, who knew him well.

"It's terrible for his Ma and Da, P (Peter) and Lily, for his entire family, and the whole community of Nurney. It's so tragic on so many levels, there is an entire community in mourning."

Cllr Miley said the Bolands are a well respected and well liked family within the local community.

David's death notice has been published on www.rip.ie. However, funeral details have yet to be announced.

David was dad to eight year-old Cormac, and is also survived by parents, sisters Cathriona and Maria, girlfriend Sarah, brothers-in-law David and Michael and extended family.
