Voters are slow heading to the polls this morning

Voting is slow this morning across County Kildare as voting is held in the Presidential Election and in the referendum on blasphemy.

Aso of 9pm, just 2.4% had voted in the Church of Ireland, Athy; 3.3% in Scoil Mhichil Naofa, Athy; 3.3% in Kildare Boys National School; 4% in Scoil Mhuire Junior, Newbridge; 2.5% in Rathangan; 4.5% in Kilcullen; 4% in Celbridge; up to 5% in one Leixlip polling station and 3% in Clane.

In contrast, voting was brisker in May's referendum on repealing the 8th Amendment - the last time that voters went to the polls. Roughly 10% of voters had gone to the polls by 9am on May 25.
