Book launched featuring work of late Kildare visual artist, Gill Berry

Local artist Gill Berry, passed away in March 2011 and since then her friends Kevin O Kelly, Siobhan Conway and Gay Brabazon have been working to produce the book titled Gill Berry, Visual Artist.

Gill was a gifted artist who showed great skill with a pencil, as is evident from her early works. She was very skilled at draughtsmanship, and sculpture but her finest achievement was a mastery of the watercolour medium, which is evident in her Cave Painting series. Gill left a large body of work behind and these have been compiled in book form to tell the story of her evolution as an artist and note the influences her travels and interactions with other cultures had on her art. Paula Nolan was an inspired choice as book designer and she worked with Karl Tsigdinos on the stunning layout of the book which is a fitting tribute to this great Kildare artist.

It was launched in Kildare Town Library on October 1 by Lucina Russell, Arts Officer for Kildare. Siobhan Conway received an email from someone who had just seen the book which said: ”I think this book was almost woven together rather than created in the usual two dimensional method; woven with everybody’s gems and contributions.”
