Mark Dalton
Athy-based independent county councillor Mark Dalton has resigned from Kildare County Council.
He has represented the Athy Municipal District. It is understood that the next meeting of the County Council will consider a replacement for him.
In a statement from the now former councillor to local radio station KFM Mr Dalton thanked the people of Athy for their support over the past 24 years as a public representative.
He indicated that he was looking forward to pursuing a life outside public life and the establishment of a new business in Athy
Mr Dalton faces a sentencing hearing at Naas Circuit Court in the coming weeks relating to 28 separate charges of taking the money from Cill Urnai Housing Association Limited on dates from 2009 to 2014.

Cllr Dalton, who had previously been a parliamentary assistant to Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghail, resigned from the Fianna Fáil party after the garda investigation came to light.
A statement from Kildare County Council confirmed that Mr Dalton’s resignation arrived yesterday, Tuesday, October 9.
