Met Éireann extends red weather warning

Met Eireann has issued a new red weather warning for Kildare up until noon on Friday.

The initial red alert for snow and ice had been in place for five counties until 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday. However, the national weather forecaster has now issued a new snow-ice warning for Munster and Leinster.

It says blizzard-like conditions will develop in heavy snow and strong easterly winds on Thursday evening and will continue Thursday night and Friday morning giving significant snow drifts in many areas.

The second warning will come into effect on Thursday at 4pm and remain in place until noon on Friday.
