Members of Kildare Town Running and Tri Club who ran the Dublin City Marathon in aid of the Irish Cancer Society had more to celebrate than most.

They managed to double their projected funds from €10,000 to in excess of €20,000.

According to club secretary Angeline Gleeson it was a group effort.

“For many it was their first marathon and the club ran the marathon as a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society,” she said.

“They had set a target of €10,000 as a goal but they have surpassed all expectations and to date have raised in excess of €20, 000.”

The club has one last fundraising event.

“We will fundraise at a black tie night in Cunninghams, Kildare Town on November 17 and after that we hope to be very close to our revised target of €26,200 for the 26.2 miles ran,” added Angeline.

“These amazing people are a worth a mention in recognition of their hard work and effort.”

Meanwhile the club will also host a 6k and 12k fun run for Christmas on December 10 at the boxing club from 10am. There will be santy hats, hot chocolate and even reindeer medals.
