Rathangan students enjoy African drumming session

Students at Ard Scoil Rathangan taking part in the drumming workshop

On September 6, the students of Ard Scoil Rathangan got the exciting experience of participating in an African drumming workshop entitled, “Jabba Jabba Jimbe” at their school.

The workshop included learning multiple drumbeats and drumming techniques, that originated in Africa.

Students also learnt the history of the drums and how they were designed by the African natives.

The workshop began with the students learning to play “Bass” and “Tone” on the different types of drums.

David Day is the founder of the workshop. He has been studying African and world drumming for over 20 years. For over 10 years now David has been providing drumming workshops and drum circles at a range of events including festivals, schools, corporate and community groups.

David brought drums for all of the students so they can learn and have fun as a group. Nobody was left uninvolved, not even for a minute.

“We had a lot of fun and it was very interesting to see all the different drums and learn about the history” said one of the students who took part in the workshop.

The workshop has been running in the school for many years now and every year it has been a huge success, with the students finding it great fun.

David took out multiple class groups during the day and they all participated well in the activities.

The students of Ard scoil Rathangan would not hesitate for a moment to encourage everyone to participate in this workshop.
