Athy man wins award at FBD Young Farmer of the Year

Beef farmer Brian Keegan from Athy took home the FBD Young Farmer of the Year Adjudicator’s prize at an awards ceremony last Tuesday night.

Brian won the award following a challenging interview process and on-farm visit. He has won a €500 travel bursary.

The overall winner of the 18th FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition was  Kevin Moran, a dairy farmer from Claremorris.

The competition is organised by Macra na Feirme in partnership with the IFA and sponsors, FBD.

The awards ceremony took place in at the Boyne Valley Hotel and Country Club.

The aim of the competition is to recognise and reward the top young farmers in the country. Entrants are judged according to a number of criteria including farm business initiative and innovation, levels of farm efficiency and enterprise quality, farm safety and environmental protection awareness, as well as agricultural knowledge and community involvement.
