Lidl's plans may ease Newbridge traffic

Traffic around Old Connell might be improved as a result of Lidl expansion

The recent announcement that Lidl will recruit 600 new staff in the next two years may benefit Newbridge according to Kildareouth TD Fiona O'Loughlin.

“This is good news we hope for Newbridge where Lidl's largest warehouse is currently in planning and could have a positive impact on traffic management in the Old Connell area of Newbridge, where there have been ongoing issues with HGVs,” Deputy O'Loughlin said.

“In the recent planning application to KCC, it was agreed that Lidl would pay for the extension and opening of the planned road across Fay's land where the road is partially constructed. This should then put an end to the heavy traffic accessing Lidl through Buckley's Cross, and make our roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and local residents”.

Recruitment will commence immediately for 600 roles to include store operations, warehouse and distribution support as well as head office, buyers, accounting and admin staff, HR and regional office roles.

Over €500m worth of Irish sourced goods are purchased from 180 suppliers annually she said, adding that this benefit local suppliers.
