Works to restore a full water supply to the Curragh Camp will begin on Monday, January 19, according to a Defence Forces spokesperson.

"On 15 January 2025, on the advice of the Health Service Executive (HSE), and as a precautionary measure pending further investigation, a Drinking Water DO NOT CONSUME Notice was served on the Military Authorities in the Defence Forces Training Centre at the Curragh Camp by the Local Authority," he said.

"Water is supplied to the Curragh Camp from two wells. The notice was served as a result of a test of a sample taken from one of the locations. As a result of the test, all water supplied from that well is now restricted."

He pointed out that at present, all camp locations North of Mac Swiney Road East and West (identifiable as the Middle Road) are affected including all catering facilities and messes with the exception of the Military College NCO’s Mess.

"It is advised that caution is to be taken when using water for personal hygiene and bathing, to avoid consumption. No notice has been received in relation to the water supplied from the other well. Water from this well supplies Camp locations South of MacSwiney Road East and West," he added.

"Work is ongoing in this regard to examine supply and filtration options in coordination with the Local Authority and private operators in the immediate and medium term. Works will commence on 19 JAN 2026 aimed at restoring full service as soon as possible."

Despite the current water quality issues Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that there has been no effect on the operational output or security of the Curragh Camp. Defence Forces training schools located in the Curragh Camp will resume courses as normal on Monday.

Meanwhile, Kildare County Council also served the "Do not consume" order to the Curragh Community College, which closed last Friday.
