A slips, trips and falls audit is on the way for one County Kildare housing estate.
The audit was requested by Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place yesterday (November 19 last).
Cllr Pender, who attended the meeting by virtual means, motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry out "a slips, trips and falls audit of Mount Carmel Estate, Newbridge, with a view to prioritising and repairing the footpaths most in need of repair first".
His motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer.
Speaking further on his motion, Cllr Pender told KCC: "I think all of us here brought up the Mount Carmel Estate a number of times [in the past]."

He also emphasised to KCC: "I'm not asking for the whole estate to be done; just to deal with the worst places in the estate, as it is one of the oldest in the town."
Cllr Pender further said that he believed that the audit is necessary as number of residents in Mount Carmel Estate have mobility and / or disability issues.
In addition, he said that a number of residents had raised different problem areas to both him and Cllr O'Dwyer.
Following this comment, Cllr O'Dwyer told those in attendance: "It will be interesting to see what we will find when we go down there."
Responding to Cllr Pender's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The MD Office will carry out an assessment of the footpaths in Mount Carmel Estate."
