A councillor has motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry out maintenance works and repairs on land owned by KCC.

Fine Gael Cllr Ivan Keatley submitted the motion at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which was held earlier today (April 14). He appeared at the meeting by virtual means.

In full, Cllr Keatley's motion read as follows: "That the council carries out maintenance work on council owned land at Sweep
Lane, Nurney and repair damage caused by encroaching vegetation to adjoining properties."

His motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian Dooley, who also appeared at the meeting by virtual means.

In response to Cllr Keatley, KCC informed him that there is "an infrastructural deficit at the site at Sweep Lane in Nurney that
Uisce Éireann needs to address".

"The site is listed for upgrade, however, it is not likely to be done in the medium term," KCC added.

KCC also said that its Parks Section will assess the location "to see what extent of works are required", but stressed that any works planned "may have to wait until Autumn due to the bird nesting season".

Referring to the latter explanation, Cllr Keatley told KCC that he was satisfied to hear that its Parks Section would "have a look" into the matter.

"I would just encourage them [the Parks Section] to work on it as quickly as possible," he added.
