In Leixlip, some 1,800 customers are without a supply and likewise in Celbridge where 1,100 have no electricity.

ESB Networks repairs crews have already repaired faults at a number of other locations across the  county. Some 170 customers are affected Two Mile House and 599 customers have no power in Maynooth.

Although Kildare exited a status red warning earlier, a status yellow wind warning came into force at noon and remains in place until 4pm.

Met Éireann says this means there will be strong to near gale force westerly winds with further damaging gusts leading to hazardous travelling conditions an d damage to already weakened structures.
