Local Fianna Fáil Minister James Lawless TD is reminding residents that the Local Improvement Scheme run by Kildare County Council is open to applications.

Minister Lawless said: “The fund is there for the construction or improvement of small non-public roads not normally maintained by the Local Authority in this instance Kildare County Council.

“The practice is for local homeowners or farmers, or other users of these roads make a small contribution for the cost of the road improvements and the Department of Rural and Community Development provide the balance of funding via Kildare County Council.”

He added: “The key point to remember is that a minimum of one of the applicants must be engaged in agricultural activities on a parcel of land accessed by the road in question.”
