A Social Democrats councillor has called on the local authority to reconfigure the access points to St Conleth's Car Park by changing the current exit to pedestrian only.
Tabling his motion at the January meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, Cllr Chris Pender further called for the area near the entrance to be uitilised to accommodate an additional exit to improve circulation, reduce congestion, and enhance pedestrian safety.
A report issued by Kildare County Council stated: 'The Strategic Projects and Public Realm (SPPR) team have engaged with Councillor Peggy O’Dwyer and the Municipal District Engineer over the last 12 months with a view to progressing a pedestrian access from St. Conleth’s Car Park to Main Street.
'Work is underway to finalise a design and costings after which SPPR will engage further with the Municipal District Engineer to progress the pedestrian access.'
