Kildare GAA: Rory Gallagher set to link-up with Naas

Rory Gallagher

Former Derry county manager, Rory Gallagher is set to take up a coaching role with Kildare GAA four-in-a-row champions Naas, it is being widely reported.

Gallagher, who led Derry to the Ulster SFC title in 2022 before resigning in controversial circumstances, is reported to be linking up with Naas manager Joe Murphy for the 2025 season.

Four-in-a-row champions, Naas, the dominant club side in Kildare football in recent times, but who failed to win a coveted Leinster Club title, lost their influential coach, Kevin Downes, who has emigrated with his family to the US following their victory over Celbridge in the 2024 Kildare SFC final, will be hoping that Gallagher can prove the missing link to see them, not only make it five Kildare senior titles in a row, but that much sought-after provincial title.

A controversial appointment, it will certainly be interesting to see how the Derry man will be welcomed to the Kildare county town team but his appointment will certainly be a huge boost to the the boys in blue and white, as he, Gallagher, is acknowledged as a coach of the highest quality.

Interesting times ahead.
