A call has been made for Kildare County Council to support  the establishment of housing for individuals with mental health difficulties in the form of supported accommodation.

It came from Newbridge councillor Chris Pender who said it should come in the form of supported accommodation by “actively reaching out” to bodies which provide the housing.

The councillor, who is a general election candidate for the Social Democrats in Kildare South, told a KCC meeting there are people who are living in appropriate settings and more needs to be done to tackle this.

He added some of these are in nursing homes or other similar settings and should be in supported locations.
