Community in one Kildare region has sought updates on issue ‘for years now’, Cllr claims

The subject was raised at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place in Kildare County Council's Áras Chill Dara headquarters.

The local community of a particular North Kildare region have been seeking updates 'for years now' in relation to an issue they are currently facing.

That’s according to Independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy, who raised the matter at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, October 4 last.

He submitted the following question to Kildare County Council (KCC): "Can the council outline the process for engaging with stakeholders on the proposed  road junction improvements along the HGV haul routes to the Bord na Móna Drehid Waste Management Facility, following An Bord Pleanála’s decision to grant  permission for receiving significant volumes of additional waste?"

KCC told him via its report at the meeting: "The council are currently progressing a Junction Improvement  Project with ten junctions identified.

“These ten junctions include: Dags Weld, Allenwood Crossroads, Prosperous, Firmount Cross, Cloncurry Cross and Allen Cross, that are on HGV haul routes for the Bord na Móna Drehid Waste Management Facility.

“Consultation with the public will take place during the consenting phase as  each project is progressed.”

KCC concluded: "Further junction locations will be considered for  improvement in due course, based on locations identified by the Roads Planning Team and the Department of Transport Support Office Road Safety Analysis."

In response, Cllr McEvoy told the members of KCC who were present at the meeting: "To put it on the record, this local community have been looking for these junction updates for a number of years now."

A representative of KCC then assured Cllr McEvoy that the council 'is engaging with Bord na Móna in relation to the matter.'
