Melissa Hayward with her Award
Melissa Hayward, from Newtown Co Kildare and founder of Hair Extension Training Ireland, has been honoured with the prestigious title of Solo Businesswoman of the Year at the Network Ireland Businesswoman of the Year Awards, held on Friday at the beautiful Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny.
This remarkable event celebrated the achievements of women in business, attracting a record 460 applications from 17 local branches.
Melissa’s win underscores her significant contributions to the hair and beauty industry, particularly in hair extensions.

“I am incredibly proud to receive this award,” Melissa expressed. “This recognition is not just for me, but for all the talented women in business across Ireland. I’m passionate about empowering others and committed to elevating industry standards through quality education.”
Melissa’s journey began at just 17 when she worked at Bewley’s Café to afford her own hair extensions. What started as a personal quest for longer, thicker hair quickly turned into a mission to help others achieve their hair goals. After completing an apprenticeship at the renowned Zoo Salon in New York, she returned to Ireland to open her own business, transforming the hair—and confidence—of countless clients, including numerous celebrities.
As the driving force behind Hair Extension Training Ireland, Melissa is dedicated to empowering aspiring hair extension professionals. The academy focuses on providing high-quality education and fostering a sense of confidence and empowerment in every student.
In addition to her work with Hair Extension Training Ireland, Melissa serves as a board member of the Irish Hairdressing Council, actively promoting positive change within the industry. Her commitment to education is evident in the academy’s mission: “Building Belief in Your Potential.”
The Network Ireland Businesswoman of the Year Awards recognise women who understand business, are passionate about their careers, and demonstrate an unwavering determination to succeed. With this year’s record number of applications, the spirit of female-led entrepreneurship is stronger than ever across Ireland.
