Landowners in County Kildare will be advised on their responsibilities to maintain hedgerows, according to the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) Office.
The assurance was given by Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest MD meeting, which was held on Friday, September 6 last.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick, who is also the Vice-Mayor of the MD, submitted the following motion at the meeting: "That the council cuts the hedgerows in the interest of the safety of road users in the Clane-Maynooth MD, in cases where hedgerows are deemed dangerous and engagement with the landowner has been unsuccessful."
KCC told him in response: "The MD office have cut tall vegetation at junctions during the last few months to ensure sightlines are maintained."
"The MD Office will engage with landowners and advise them on their responsibilities to maintain verges/hedgerows," KCC added.
