Funeral details have been announced for a young mum who suddenly died in Australia, one month after giving birth to her baby girl.

Aileen Wilkinson, aged 32, suddenly died following a “tragic event” one month after giving birth to her little girl, Rosa.

Originally from Cork, she worked as a nurse at Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Australia.

She suddenly passed away on August 21 leaving behind her partner, Marco, and their little girl.

She will be reposing at O’Farrell’s Funeral Home, Riverside Way, Midleton, on Monday, September 2 from 5pm to 7pm.

Reception in Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Midleton on Tuesday, August 3 at 11am Funeral Mass, followed by cremation at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.

Since the tragic news broke out, tributes have been pouring in for the young woman who has been described as a "fabulous nurse" who always had a smile on her face.

My deepest sympathies to all of Aileen’s loved ones, on her very sad passing. I worked with Aileen on GA Neuro in CUH, she was a fabulous nurse and a really kind person, always with a smile on her face. May she rest in peace," a former colleague paid in tribute.

"My sincere condolences to Marco, baby Rosa, Mary, Eddie, Cristín and Eoghan on Aileen’s untimely passing. I feel so greatful to have known Aileen; to have laughed with her, enjoyed walks with her, and shared many a slice of cake. She had the best sense of humour and I’ll cherish our memories always. Thinking of you all xx," a friend paid in tribute.

A GoFundMe campaign had been set up to bring Aileen home to Ireland. Over 70k (over 100,000 Australian dollars) have been raised.

“As you may know we have suddenly lost the beautiful Aileen following an unexpected tragic event. Aileen leaves behind her wonderful partner Marco and beautiful baby girl Rosa who she gave birth to on the 23rd July 2024,” said organiser Kieran Joyce on the fundraiser page.

“During this difficult time we are setting up this go fund me for any associated costs in the immediate to get Aileen back to Ireland and as well as setting up things for Rosa’s future. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated, no matter how great or small, would mean the world to Marco and Rosa.

“For those unable to contribute financially, your words of comfort and shared memories of Aileen would be greatly appreciated so we can share with Rosa how much of a presence Aileen was in all of our lives. Thank you.”
