A total of €80,000 in funding has been allocated to two County Kildare towns.
Clane and Monasterevin are set to benefit under the latest round of funding for Town Centre First projects.
The funding will support pre-development works for projects and support costs including detailed design, planning, procurement, professional fees, assessments and other development costs.
The announcement was welcomed by Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon, who said: "I am delighted to receive confirmation from my colleague the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, that Clane will receive €45,000 and Monasterevin €34,355 towards assisting Kildare County Council in creating a pipeline of significant, well-developed projects in these two towns.
"The €34,355 allocated to Monasterevin will contribute towards a redevelopment of a space in the town which is currently car dominated and providing an area with increased cultural and commercial offering.
"The funding of €45,000 announced for Clane today will allow for consultants to be engaged to prepare appropriate pre-development plans, including for the proposed expansion of existing recreational routes, that could be used for cycling, hiking or mountain-biking."
Minister Heydon continued: "Keeping our rural towns and villages at the centre of community life, ensuring they remain vibrant, busy and attractive places to visit is an important aim of this government and this funding announced under the Town Centre First policy does just that.
"The revitalisation of our town centres is a key objective of this government’s Town Centre First and Our Rural Future objectives, which has already seen Kildare town benefit from €150,000 in funding and Calverstown benefitting from €198,000."
Minister Heydon concluded: "I look forward to seeing these exciting projects and initiatives progress and making positive impacts in both Monasterevin and Clane."
