€20,650 worth of Local Property Tax (LPT) funds within the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) will be carried over into 2025.

The decision was agreed upon by councillors who attended the latest MD meeting on Wednesday, July 17 last.

The representatives were told that the monies would be allocated to fund festivals within the MD.

Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer proposed to the Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry over the funds to next year.

Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender added: "This is an opportunity to push for discussion for two different festival grants."
Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey said he agreed with Cllr Pender's suggestion.

The Mayor of the MD, Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer, proposed to carrying over the funds, with the aim of potentially bringing the matter to a Strategic Policy Committee meeting.

This suggestion was seconded by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

One member of KCC suggested that the funds could be plit into two separate streams, but another member of KCC warned that this would be too 'labour intensive.'

It was ultimately decided that, in line with Mayor O'Dwyer's proposal, the funds would roll over to the next year, with the possibility of the matter being discussed further at a Strategic Policy Committee meeting.
