It was a case of two charity events, organised on opposite sides of the Atlantic raising much needed funds for a worthwhile cause.

All in memory of the late Jamie Donohoe from Newbridge, who was just 16 years old when he died in a tragic car accident 15 years ago.

The 17th Annual Jamie “Smiley” Donohoe Golf Classic was held in Newbridge Golf Club in June and raised a total of €5.670.

Now an annual event in the diary of Newbridge Golf Club, Jamie's Dad Paul said, “The generosity of people continue to astound us, We would like to thank everyone who participated in this years event, players, tee sponsors and prize sponsors alike, there are too many people involved to single out any individual, but we would like to note the amount of people still supporting and participating in the event since the first outing in 2008.”

Across the ocean, The Jamie “Smiley” Donohoe Charity Darts Open was held in Lynches Irish Bar Jacksonville, Florida and raised a total of €1.330.

Jamie's nephew, Kevin Donohoe who now lives in Jacksonville with his family, is involved with the Jax Duval Darts League. Kevin in conjunction with the League organisers recently ran a darts open in Lynch’s Irish Pub.

Paul added; “My understanding is that the darts day was considered such a success by the organisers that they are already planning next years event.

“We are blown away that people who never met Jamie, and don't know us as a family could be so generous with their time to organise an event like this.

“We would like to sincerely thank them and all who practiced on the day, we hope they realise what their generosity means to both the Donohoe Family and Make A Wish Ireland.”
