A councillor who has served as the Mayor of both Naas and Newbridge has announced his intention to be a Fianna Fáil candidate in the next General Election in Kildare North.
Cllr Power made the announcement today, where he said in an official statement: "Having successfully contested three elections for Kildare County Council in different constituencies due to boundary changes, I now see my local area split by another boundary change.
"My home place of Caragh and the surrounding areas of Donore and Ladytown now move into Kildare North at the next election."
He continued: "I have had the unique honour of serving as Mayor of both [the] Naas and Newbridge [Municipal] Districts.
"I've been Deputy Mayor of the county, Chair of the Regional Assembly and chair of Innovate Kildare, our network of innovative hubs across the county.
"My father and grandfather served this county as TDs for 42 years and I know from the stories that are told to me by my constituents the impact that their public service has had on the lives of people across Kildare."
"As a father, husband, PAYE worker and a councillor in Kildare for the last ten years I know and understand the challenges facing this county.
According to Cllr Power, he said that he has 'the energy, enthusiasm and compassion to do the job.'
He further said: "The first step is to seek the support of the Fianna Fail members to be their candidate."
"I'm really looking forward to the campaign ahead," Cllr Power concluded.
