Man with 166 previous convictions fined over public order incident

A Kildare town resident who has 166 previous convictions was fined for being drunk and disorderly.

Judge Desmond Zaidan was informed about the incident involving Gerard Molloy, with an address given as 38 Loughlion Green, Monasterevin Road in Kildare town, while he presided over the case on Thursday, June 13 last.

Gardaí present in Naas District Court said that the 34-year-old was intoxicated and spotted shirtless at Loughlion Green on January 24, 2022.

It was heard that Mr Molloy became verbally abusive to gardaí when they confronted him.

The court was told that he has 116 previous convictions — however, the exact nature of these convictions was not disclosed to the court.

Judge Zaidan commented that this was a 'sad' case and fined Mr Molloy €500.

The judge gave him three months to pay this fine.
