The Main Street of Kilcullen is 'in desperate need' of health and safety measures, according to one Kildare county councillor.
Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, May 15 last.
She submitted the following motion to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the meeting: "That the council carries out a health and safety audit for slips, trips and falls on a section of public path on Main Street, Kilcullen from the traffic lights down to the Credit Union, Main Street."
Her motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer.
Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer raised her concerns regarding the Main Street of Kilcullen at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting.
Commenting further on her motion, Cllr O'Dwyer told KCC that she had personally witnessed people falling while attempting to traverse the Main Street.
"It is a busy section which is in desperate need of some safety measures," she added.
In response to her motion, KCC told Cllr O'Dwyer: "The MD office will liaise with the Access Officer in this regard and carry out a joint inspection as required."
"Any works will be subject to budget availability," KCC added.
Following this response, Cllr O'Dwyer said that she welcomed the report from KCC.
