LATEST: Large garda presence in Sallins estate following fatal assault of man in 30s

There's a large garda presence in an estate in Sallins following the discovery of a man with fatal injuries after 3am this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the property in The Close, Sallins Park after 3am on Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, a man in his 30s was discovered with fatal injuries.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

Officers from the Garda Technical Bureau are carrying out a forensic examination of the property this morning. 

A man in his early 20s was arrested at the property and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in County Kildare.

Gardaí said that the body of the deceased remains remain at the scene.

The local Coroner and office of the State Pathologist have been informed, and preparations are underway for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí said a senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Naas Garda Station.

A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to keep the deceased's family informed of developments.

A Garda statement added: "The investigation is ongoing."
