Kildare County Council (KCC) was asked at a recent meeting to recommend safety improvements for a pedestrian crossing located in North Kildare.

The matter was brought to KCC's attention by Green Party Cllr Peter Hamilton at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, May 3 last.

He asked KCC: "Can the council recommend safety improvements for the pedestrian crossing junction at Moyglare Road / Newtown Hall at the Maynooth Education Campus to address safety concerns reported by the schools at this very busy junction?"

In response, KCC told Cllr Hamilton: "The location of the crossing is at the desired line for pedestrians wishing to access Moyglare Abbey.

"The visibility at the crossing is considered sufficient for vehicles travelling within the posted speed limit of 50kph."

KCC concluded: "There are no physical structures blocking the sightlines at the crossing."

Cllr Hamilton said that he accepted the report.
