A 20-year-old man has been jailed for driving with no insurance on three separate occasions in Newbridge.

Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed the custodial sentence on the man when he heard the case at Naas District Court on Thursday, March 14 last.

Gardaí told the judge that on Andrian Rotari, with an address listed as 682 Cabane in Newbridge, was caught driving without valid insurance at November 11, 2022, at Rosconnell Square in Newbridge.

It was heard that on this date, Mr Rotari was involved in a collision, in which he damaged a fence with his car.

Then, on December 12, 2022, Mr Rotari was asked by gardaí to produce proof of insurance while at Littleconnell in Newbridge.

However, he was unable to produce any proof of insurance.

Gardaí further said that on the afternoon of May 27 last, Mr Rotari was spotted by gardaí driving at 124 kilometres in an 80 kph zone, at Old Connell in Newbridge.

He was asked by gardaí to produce proof of insurance, but was unable to provide any to them.

Mr Rotari pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

The court was told that he has no previous convictions.

Defending barrister Mark Gibbons told Judge Zaidan that his client offered to pay the owner of the fence €500 in order to cover the damages caused to it by his client's vehicle.

He also pointed to his client's guilty pleas, adding: "He is not making any excuses."

In addition, Mr Gibbons handed in a reference letter from Mr Rotari's employer to the court, and asked the judge to consider his client's age at the time of the offences.

Judge Zaidan told Mr Gibbons that while he noted the defences put forward by him, he ultimately decided to impose a five-month custodial sentence on Mr Rotari for the December 2022 offence, and another five-month sentence for the May 2023 offence (a total of 10 months in custody).

He also imposed a four-year disqualification on Mr Rotari, as well as imposing a €200 fine for the speeding offence, and ordered for this fine to be paid within three months.

The judge set appeal at €500.
