Aisling Bea on the Late Late Show on Friday night

Kildare-born comedian Aisling Bea gave the Leinster Leader a shout-out on the Late Late Show on Friday night.

The UK-based star, who went to Presentation Secondary School in Kildare Town and worked as a tour guide at the Irish National Stud, was a guest alongside actor Domhnall Gleeson for a St Valentine's Special programme.

Bea recalled how the pair met at a friend's glitzy Hollywood party where A list attendees included Jeff Goldblum, Monica Lewinsky and Jamie Dornan.

Bea told host Patrick Kielty: "We were brought up to this thing in the hills, like a veranda, and it felt really rickety, and we were like: 'if we die tonight, nobody will mention us!"

Then she turned to Gleeson and quipped: "Maybe you'd get a mention in the Irish Times - but I'd doubt I'd even get a mention in the Leinster Leader - because of the amount of people who were there, if it fell over!"

Bea currently stars in LOL: Last One Laughing: Ireland hosted by Graham Norton which brings together some of the country's top comedic talent, asking each one to make their peers laugh — without cracking so much as a smirk themselves. Whoever can outlast their competitors will be crowned the champion with a €50,000 prize for the charity of choice.

Bea won the BAFTA 2020 British Academy Television Craft Award for Breakthrough Talent.
