Residents in different localities are being urged to extend a helping hand to their older family members, neighbours, and friends as severe weather conditions grip the region.

With low temperatures and adverse weather conditions, communities are being encouraged to take a proactive approach in checking on the welfare of those who may be more susceptible to the harsh elements.

The elderly, in particular, can be at a higher risk during extreme weather events, and these simple gestures could make a significant difference.

1. A quick phone call an go a long way in ensuring that older family members and neighbours are well.

2. A brief visit can lift their spirits.

3. Bring them a care package with essential groceries.

4. Take them to the shops themselves, to allow them their own freedom while lending a hand.

5. Ensuring their pets have supplies, and their shelters are secure.
