A number of rural, 'overlooked villages' are just looking for road works.

That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Tracey O'Dwyer.

She made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, January 17 last.

Cllr O'Dwyer urged Kildare County Council (KCC) to consider Church Lane, Two Mile House for resurfacing, for when the 2024 works programme is being considered.

Her motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer.

In response, KCC told Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer via its report at the meeting: "The MD office is currently preparing the 2024 list of roads for Restoration Improvement; the MD office agree to include for consideration the above road subject to meeting criteria and budget."

Following the report, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer pointed to a number of 'overlooked' villages in rural areas across the MD: “All they have looked for is for their roads to be done up.”

In the context of Two Mile House, she said: "Church Lane is the main access road to Two Mile House, and I will bring this matter up again later in the year, when the programme is being discusssed."

She concluded: "I very much welcome the report that KCC agree to include this much-used road for consideration."
