The  new pedestrian bridge over the Grand Canal in Sallins should be named after St Brigid.

Naas Mayor Bill Clear told a Naas Municipal District meeting that the new structure should be called St Brigid’s Bridge “given that we are honouring St Brigid both this year and this year all over the county.”

The formal naming of the bridge is governed by Kildare County Council protocol and a decision will be made at a later date.

The bridge has not yet been officially opened.
