The former manager of the recently closed-down restaurant Il Ponte Nuovo in Newbridge has told the Leinster Leader the reason why the beloved venue suddenly closed down.

On Sunday, December 10 last, it was reported that Il Ponte Nuovo would close with immediate effect.

Now, Moe Nawara, who managed Il Ponte Nuovo prior to its closure, has explained the reason behind the closure.

Mr Nawarea said: "To all our valued customers, on behalf of the company, its directors, owners and our valued staff; firstly we would like to thank everyone for your well wishes and support during this difficult time it is really appreciated

"As you know, Sunday, December 10, we had to make the difficult decision to close our beloved restaurant Il Ponte Nuovo in Newbridge.

"We had to make this decision because of financial difficulties primarily arising from Covid. This coupled with ever increasing costs of food , energy and so on."

He continued: "Whilst we tried in good faith to trade our way through the issues it came to a head on December 10.

"We were trying to reach an agreement with our landlord over rent arrears built up during Covid, but unfortunately, a resolution could not be reached in time and this was the final straw that lead us to close our establishment

"We wish to clarify that Ponte Nuovo 2 Go is a separate company, and at this time is not affected by the restaurants closure and remains open for business seven nights a week."

Ponte Nuovo 2 Go is located on the Main Street of Newbridge.

Mr Naware also said that, where possible, the owners of the restaurant have tried to secure employment for our loyal staff in other locations and 'will continue to offer support where possible in this difficult time.'

He added: "Although Ponte Nuovo 2 Go is a separate company, as a gesture of good will and for a limited period of time, we have made a decision to accept any vouchers which were for the restaurant at Ponte Nuovo 2 Go."

"Finally, we again wish to thank our loyal and valued customers, staff, suppliers and supporters your support has been a great help in this difficult time," Mr Nawera concluded.
