The TV personality was best known as a presenter on the popular Irish children's afternoon show Bosco, in which he appeared alongside the puppet throughout the show's original 1980s run.

He was remembered as a talented actor with a great sense of humour.

In addition to Bosco, he appeared on the RTÉ comedy shows Bull Island, in which he did impressions of politicians including Mary O'Rourke, Willie O'Dea and David Trimble.

Nighthawks, the ground-breaking RTÉ show, was also another programme which featured his talents

A stage veteran, he also featured for many years as a dame of The Everyman's annual Christmas pantomime.

In more recent years, Twomey featured on the RTÉ Player advice show Agony OAPs alongside retired footballer Pat Spillane and retired politician Mary O'Rourke.

Former RTÉ journalist and presenter Flor McCarthy said his talent "brought decades of theatre and tv to life".
