A man residing in Newbridge was fined for verbally abusing gardaí while under the influence of alcohol.
Sebastian Furman, of no fixed abode in Newbridge, was convicted of the offence in his absence by Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court.
Gardaí present in court on Thursday, November 16 last that the 37-year-old was drinking at Rosconnell Square in Newbridge on November 3 last.
They said that Mr Furman 'was highly intoxicated and unsteady on his feet.'
It was heard that when he was confronted by gardaí, he became abusive and aggressive towards them, and told them to 'f**k off.'
Gardaí also said that Mr Furman has 10 previous convictions, five of which are for public intoxication offences.
Defending solicitor told Judge Zaidan that his client struggles with an addiction to alcohol.
"Ultimately, he's not a bad guy, but obviously the gardaí shouldn't have had to put up with all that," he added.
Judge Zaidan decided to fine Mr Furman €900 for the offence, which is to be paid within three months.
