A woman was so badly assaulted that she will require plastic surgery.
That's what gardaí told Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on Thursday, November 9 last.
The man is aged in his 30s and is currently remanded in custody.
He appeared before Naas District Court via video-link.
Gardaí told the judge that the woman had been successfully granted a protection order against the man.
It was heard that on November 5 last at Basin Street in Naas, the woman and her friend were allegedly assaulted by her male ex-partner.
The court was told that the man allegedly went into a taxi and followed the woman and her friend.
He then allegedly dragged the woman (his ex-partner) into a taxi by her hair and proceeded to violently attack her.
Gardaí said that she required between 40 and 50 stitches due to her injuries, and added that she will require plastic surgery.
Defending solicitor David Powderly said that his client insists that he acted in self-defence.
The case was adjourned by the judge to a date later in the month, to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He remanded the accused in custody until the case resumes.
Judge Zaidan also adjourned a separate alleged public disorder matter involving the defendant to a date in January 2024 for hearing.
