Carol Murphy of People First Credit Union announces the Award at the Laois Community and Voluntary Awards in Portlaoise
The Laois Kildare People First Credit Union has launched a new Community Champions Award worth €10,000 to support the work done by community groups in the areas it serves.
The announcement was made by Carol Murphy, People First Marketing Manager, at the Laois Community and Voluntary Awards held in Portlaoise on November 3.
"I have the privilege of introducing a brand new initiative that is close to our hearts. It is our time for us to recognize and give back to the volunteers and the extraordinary individuals who work tirelessly for our community. It gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of the 'Community Champions Award' by People First Credit Union. This €10,000 award is dedicated to supporting a volunteer group within our common bond, aiming to bring long-lasting benefits not only to their group but also to the broader community. We understand and value the incredible contributions you make, and this award is a symbol of our appreciation for your outstanding dedication.
"I would like to express my gratitude to my Community Funding Committee in People First Credit Union who selflessly volunteer their time to evaluate each application throughout the year. This collaboration with the Laois County Council and Laois Public Participation Network perfectly resonates with our goal of nurturing community involvement. We have received immense support from both Laois County Council and Laois PPN for this initiative, and we extend our sincere gratitude to them," she told the gathering.
Any not-for-profit community or voluntary group can apply. Commercial organisations and individuals are not eligible for funding
The following provides a non-exhaustive list of projects that could receive funding under the award This award should benefit our common bond areas of Portlaoise. Abbeyleix, Athy, Stradbally and surrounding areas of the common bond within a 5km radius
