A teenage defendant whose case was refused jurisdiction by a Naas District Court judge has been granted bail.
Back in September, the court was told during the in-camera (in private) court session that the teenager was involved in an incident of with a gang made up of other youths (these youths were not identified on the date in question) where they stole a sum of money from a vehicle in County Kildare and later stole a separate vehicle.
It was heard that the car was later found abandoned.
When the garda began to detail a second offence, Judge Zaidan interjected by saying that he would refuse jurisdiction due to the serious nature of the accusations.
On the latest date (Thursday, November 2 last), the juvenile, who was accompanied to the court by their father, was granted bail by presiding Judge Philip O’Leary after gardaí said that they had no objection to bail being granted for the teenager.
The State also withdrew three different charges against the defendant, one of which included an allegation of burglary.
According to the bail conditions granted by Judge O’Leary: the defendant must reside at a listed address; they must stay away from the specific area where the first alleged offence occurred; they must observe a curfew of 10pm to 6am; and they must notify gardaí whenever they visit their grandparent’s house (it was heard that the teenager occasionally spends time there).
The case was adjourned to a date in December.
A separate summons matter against the accused will also be heard on this date for mention.
