A Kildare town man has been accused of trespassing onto a building site and syphoning diesel from drums.

The allegations relate to Jamie Connors, of 2957 Maryville Grove, Melitta Road in Kildare town.

The 24-year-old appeared at Naas District Court in front of Judge Desmond Zaidan on Thursday, October 26 last.

Gardaí alleged that they stopped Mr Connors in his vehicle at a building site located on the Station Walk / Roseberry area of Newbridge on the night of October 3 last.

They claimed that they noticed 'a strong smell of cannabis' from his car, and they soon discovered that he had €100 worth of cannabis in this car.

He admitted to gardaí that the cannabis belonged to him.

According to gardaí, a further search of his vehicle showed that he was allegedly in possession of an axe, a cap and gloves, and diesel in a diesel drum.

Furthermore, gardaí alleged that CCTV footage showed Mr Connors using a hosepipre to syphon diesel from two other diesel drums on the site.

Judge Desmond Zaidan granted bail for the defendant and adjourned the case to February 22, 2024, to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
